The King will get a new title when he visits the Vatican for a State Visit.

King Charles and Queen Camilla will head to the Holy See on October 22 and 23.

During the State Visit, His Majesty will get a new title, courtesy of The Pope.

Leo XIV has asked The King to become a ‘‘Royal Confrater’ of the Abbey of St. Paul’s Outside the Walls in Rome. St. Paul’s is one of four major Papal Basilicas and is the most closely associated with ecumenical commitment.

This papal gift is a recognition of spiritual fellowship and will be marked with the presentation of a special chair for The King inside the Basilica.

It will feature His Majesty’s Coat of Arms and it will be kept there in perpetuity, to be used by The King and ”his heirs and successors”.

During the State Visit, The King and Queen will join Pope Leo for a special ecumenical service in the Sistine Chapel which will take the theme of ”Care for Creation” and which will reflect a shared commitment to the protection of nature.

King Charles and Pope Leo will also hold a meeting on climate in the Sala Regia.

Queen Camilla will hold a meeting in the Sistine Chapel with the choristers of His Majesty’s Chapel Royal and St. George’s Chapel who will take part in the service. The Queen will also meet members of the choir of the Sistine Chapel who will have contributed to the music as well.

The State Visit will also see King Charles attend a reception at the Pontifical Beda College which trains priests from across the Commonwealth.

The Queen will put the focus on the empowerment of girls and women as she meets six nuns from the International Union of Superiors General who work at grassroots level to improve health and tackle sexual violence and human trafficking.

The State Visit is taking place to mark the the 2025 Jubilee Year of the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church holds a Jubilee every 25 years.

The royal visit was originally set to take place in early 2025 during the reign of Pope Francis. However, it was postponed when his health deteriorated.

Pope Francis did meet King Charles and Queen Camilla at the Vatican, just days before he died. He blessed them on the occasion of their 20th wedding anniversary.
