The future queen of the Netherlands, Catharina-Amalia, got a lesson in soft diplomacy this week as she joined her parents, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, at a glittering dinner ahead of the NATO summit in The Hague.
The royal family welcomed world leaders, including US President Donald Trump, to Huis ten Bosch Palace for the event which came just hours before the summit.
King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, in addition, held audiences with several leaders. Among those they met was Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and his wife, Diana. Mark Carney shared that the visit reinforced the close relationship between the two nations, saying “Our nations share a strong bond — from the liberation of the Netherlands in the Second World War to decades of close partnership since.”
They also met with American President Donald Trump who took centre stage at the dinner which was also attended by Mark Rutte, head of NATO and former Dutch Prime Minister. Later, Mr Rutte caused much debate by describing President Trump as ”daddy” as he and President Trump talked about the conflict between Iran and Israel.

In his speech at the dinner, King Willem-Alexander stressed the importance of NATO, remarking, “May future historians recognise the 2025 summit as a milestone. The summit where we made groundbreaking decisions and where we took responsibility together for the preservation of peace, freedom and the rule of law.”
Ever the fashion forward queen, Queen Maxima wore a lime green jumpsuit from Natan Couture for the evening. The silk jumpsuit features a plunging neckline and dramatic, sweeping sleeves.
The Princess of Orange chose an elegant, floor-length cocktail dress from Ralph Lauren with tie details on the sleeves.
