The Princess Royal is in the Orkney Islands for the 20th Island Games – an event she officially opened over the weekend.
HRH, dressed for the weather, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony alongside television presenter Lorraine Kelly.
But this isn’t the first time Princess Anne has visited Orkney, with her first experience of the Island being some 65 years ago.
On the 12 August 1960, Princess Anne visited the islands for the first time at the tender age of 10 alongside her parents, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, as well as her elder brother, Prince Charles.
The family arrived on the now decommissioned Royal Yacht Britannia, berthing in the town of Stromness.
The Queen and Prince Philip explored the Orkney Mainland, before traveling to the isles of Stronsay and Westray.
It was reported at the time that Prince Charles and Princess Anne would have no part to play in the visit, with them only being small children.
However, we now know that they enjoyed a day of picnics and games on the uninhabited island of the Holm of Houton.
The 74-year-old Princess has visited the Scottish archipelago on many occasions since, most recently in 2019 when she came to look at some of the lighthouses.
HRH visited the islands of Copinsay, Hoy and Papa Stronsay in her capacity as patron of the Northern Lighthouse Board.
A year before this she attended the Orkney College Graduation Ceremony in St. Magnus Cathedral, before attending a reception in Kirkwall Town Hall.
