Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel have paid solemn tribute to those killed in the worst mass shooting in Swedish history.
Sweden experienced its worst mass shooting when ten people were shot dead by a lone gunman at Risbergska School in Örebro. The gunman later died. Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel paid their respects on Sunday.Â
The Crown Princess and Prince attended High Mass in Längbro Church, a parish near the school. Archbishop of the Church of Sweden Martin Modéus gave mass on Sunday.
As the couple was leaving the church, Crown Princess Victoria said ”it feels important to come here to Örebro and it feels important to show participation, to honour the victims and those affected and to show that there are so many of us in society who want to be there for them. Who want to stand up for the bright side and for the good and the community. ”
Their Royal Highnesses then visited the memorial site at Risbergska School with Modéus. They spent several moments reflecting on the items that have been left in honour of the victims.
King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia visited the school in the immediate aftermath of the tragedy. In addition to expressing his shock and grief for the victims and their families, the King of Sweden shared his thanks for first responders, saying ”My family and I want to express our great appreciation to the police, rescue and medical personnel who worked intensively to save and secure human lives on this dark day.”
