New challenges for Danish princes and princesses as Queen Mary reveals her children’s school plans

The Danish royal family is already looking to the autumn with King Frederik and Queen Mary announcing the plans of their four children as the new academic year looms.

It’s all change for the youngest of their family as Princess Josephine has decided to swap schools. She’ll be heading to Spir Efterskole in a first for her family.

Queen Mary faces big change

Spir Efterskole is a boarding school in Jutland and Josephine is the first of Frederk and Mary’s children to decide to live away from home while continuing education.

She’s not the only one of her sibling who will be away from the nest. The eldest of Frederik and Mary’s four children, Crown Prince Christian, is continuing his military training and will be heading back to barracks.

The heir to the throne is embarking on a year of lieutenant training and went back to Antvorskov Barracks in Slagelse on August 11th 2025, the date the announcement about all four royals was made.

Christian has twelve months formation ahead of him followed by a period of practical service as a platoon leader.

Princess Isabella enters last part of school

Princess Isabella, second in line to the throne, is entering her final year at Øregård Gymnasium. The 18 year old will graduate in the summer of 2026.

She recently attracted controversy by going to a music festival in a sweatshirt emblazoned with a swear world.

Prince Vincent, 14, is staying put at Tranegårdsskolen. The prince, Josephine’s twin, is entering 8th grade there.

Meanwhile, King Frederik and Queen Mary will soon resume their full roster of royal engagements after a summer which saw them enjoy a break at the Danish royal residence at Grasten.
