Queen Camilla has revealed The King does one thing before dinner that she finds off putting.
Speaking in an upcoming TV programme about reading, The Queen shares that she and The King often read just before the sit down to their evening meal.
And Queen Camilla said that King Charles often starts laughing so much at the novel he’s picked up that she finds it off putting.
The Queen said ”I occasionally, when I’m deep in a book, hear him roaring with laughter about something. It’s very off-putting, I can’t get back into my book, or I’ll suddenly start weeping, but it’s a lovely, quiet time.”
The author most likely to get the Monarch chuckling is PG Wodehouse. In the programme, The Book That Changed My Life, Queen Camilla talks about favoured writers and says that King Charles is a great fan of Wodehouse and his Jeeves and Wooster novels.

There’s another royal revelation as Queen Camilla talks about reading Lady Chatterley’s Lover as a teenager and being transfixed by it. She tells the programme that ”you know the minute something is forbidden, you want to get hold of it”.
The BBC programme sees The Queen talk to four people about the books that transformed their lives. And Queen Camilla opens up about the impact that reading has had on her life, noting that as she grew up, women weren’t expected to go to university and so she has enjoyed educating herself through books.
And she speaks movingly about the impact her late father, Major Bruce Shand, had on her love of reading.
Queen Camilla’s love of reading is well known. She has been an advocate for literacy since her marriage to King Charles in 2005. In 2021, she established the charity which is now called The Queen’s Reading Room, to promote the joys of literature to all.
‘The Book That Changed My Life’ is broadcast on BBC Two at 9pm on October 14 and is available in the UK on the BBC iPlayer.
