Moving tributes from the Royal Family on VJ Day plus the royal wedding that’s bringing traffic to a standstill

Good morning from Royal Central. We’re starting today with more moving images from the VJ Day 80 anniversary that saw members of the Royal Family pay tribute across the UK.

The Duke of Edinburgh lay a wreath at Edinburgh Castle during commemorations on August 15. Prince Edward, looking very like his grandfather, King George VI, later met veterans at the castle.

The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester took part in two ceremonies for the anniversary. They were in Norwich for a service organised by the National FEPOW Fellowship Welfare Remembrance Association and later in Suffolk where they remembered the Children and Families of the Far East Prisoners of War.

Meanwhile, King Charles has thanked the 105 year old veteran who went ”off script” to thank His Majesty for his work in keeping the memory of those who served in the Far East alive.

King Charles almost broke down at the service for VJ Day when Captain Yavar Abbas saluted him for making sure soldiers from the conflict in the Far East aren’t forgotten.
