The Queen has revealed her hope that her Platinum Jubilee celebrations will be a chance for people to come together.

Her Majesty spoke of her wishes during her Christmas address. Touching on the forthcoming celebrations to mark the 70th anniversary of her reign, she said that she wanted her Platinum Jubilee year to be ”an opportunity for people everywhere to enjoy a sense of togetherness.”

The Queen added she hoped it would be a chance to ”give thanks for the enormous changes of the last seventy years – social, scientific and cultural” as well as a moment to ”look ahead with confidence.”

Her hopes for her Jubilee came towards the end of a speech which had proved to be a very personal tribute to Prince Philip. The Queen spoke movingly of her late husband, saying ”that mischievous, enquiring twinkle was as bright at the end as when I first set eyes on him.”

She also reflected on how much she and her family were missing him as they marked their first Christmas without him.

The Queen will reach the 70th anniversary of her reign on February 6th 2022 with the main events marking her Platinum Jubilee, the first ever for a British Monarch, taking place across the first weekend of June 2022.
