The Platinum Jubilee weekend: the people’s party

Buckingham Palace has unveiled a bumper programme of celebrations to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee In 2022 where she will mark 70 years on the throne.

Her Majesty will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, having succeeded her father as monarch on 6th February 1952 when Her Majesty was only 25 years old.

The celebrations for her 70 year reign will end with two major events in the heart of London, focused on the people she pledged to serve throughout her long rule.

Sunday 5th June

The Big Jubilee Lunch: After first being launched in 2009, The Big Lunch encourages communities to celebrate their connections and get to know each other better, coming together for a friendly lunch.

Next year, people will be invited to share friendship, food and fun with neighbours as part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations. This can be through street parties, picnics or tea and scones – whatever tickles your fancy.

The Platinum Jubilee Pageant: A pageant featuring over 5,000 people from across the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth will take place in Central London against the backdrop of Buckingham Palace.

It will combine street art, theatre, music, circus, carnival and costume and will celebrate the service of The Queen.
