Excitement is building across Britain as Buckingham Palace announced a programme of special events to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022, and The Queen is inviting the public to join in the party.

As part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, people are encouraged “to share friendship, food and fun with neighbours” during The Big Jubilee Lunch on 5 June 2022.

Taking place since 2009, The Big Lunch has brought communities together in the spirit of friendship to plan street parties, picnics, and other gatherings to get to know each other. In 2022, families across Britain and the Commonwealth are welcome to bring the Jubilee excitement to their own neighbourhoods by hosting a Big Jubilee Lunch.

Similar events took place in 2012 for The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, with many communities holding street parties, barbeques, and tea parties in honour of the milestone.

If you’re keen to start planning for next June, tips for holding your own celebration can be found on The Big Lunch website.

In addition to The Big Jubilee Lunch, the other big event to be held on 5 June will be a Platinum Jubilee Pageant. Featuring more than 5,000 people from across the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth, the pageant will mix elements of theatre, art, music, circus, carnival and costume, and will take place in Central London against the backdrop of Buckingham Palace.

Other Jubilee celebrations taking place over a four-day bank holiday weekend will include the lighting of Platinum Jubilee Beacons, a rescheduled Trooping the Colour, a service of thanksgiving for The Queen, and a concert called Platinum Party at the Palace. The Royal Family also will attend the Epsom Derby, a favourite event of Her Majesty’s.

Today’s news was announced on a poignant date, as 2 June marks the 69th anniversary since Her Majesty’s coronation at Westminster Abbey in 1953. The Queen will be the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee marking 70 years on the throne.

More information about the full programme of Platinum Jubilee events will be announced by Buckingham in the coming months.
