Ahead of what is sure to be a milestone 70th birthday for the first in line to the throne, His Royal Highness Charles, the Prince of Wales has revealed his plans to downsize his work in charitable outlets for the purpose of focusing on aiding The Queen in matters of the throne. This announcement comes in tandem with the fact that The Queen, since turning 91, has begun to reduce her workload considerably.
Many believe this change in royal duties to be facilitated by the anticipated transition to come sometime in the future when the Prince of Wales inherits the throne.
Clarence House reported to the Daily Telegraph, “The review was also designed to ensure the Prince’s involvement was at the right level and had the right focus… This will ensure that the charities become sustainable with less necessity for the engagement of HRH on a day-to-day basis, and will contribute in building a lasting legacy of his philanthropic work.”
This slow evolution has not come by any surprise as The Queen has gradually worked to reduce the number events she is present for over the course of the past few years. This number has lowered by eleven percent in the past year alone. Prince Charles has since begun to fill this void, calling for a reduction in his owns tasks in other areas of his royal duties.
Unfortunately, the Prince of Wales’s more public presence means that many of the charities supported by His Royal H have seen fewer contributions to aid in their efforts. Among the many organisations, most notably the Building Community has seen their revenues reduced by nearly sixty percent while others such as the Royal Drawing School has suffered severely, their contributions down significantly by approximately eighty percent.
The Prince of Wales leaves behind 2017 as the royal who worked the hardest having attended 546 engagements in all.
