King Charles III

Prince of Wales Mobbed By Admirers Following Celebration for British Council

Prince Charles was mobbed by fans outside the Palazzo Strozzi in Italy following an event to celebrate the work of the British Council in the arts.

Prince Charles was at the event to receive an award for the Renaissance Man of the Year. He is currently on a nine-day tour of Europe alongside the Duchess of Cornwall. The tour is seen by many as being a way to foster relations between the UK and other countries as the process for leaving the EU begins.

Sir Alan Duncan, the Europe Minister, joined the Prince in Florence. He praised the Royal Family as Britain’s “greatest national resource”.

Seeing the crowds that were there to see Prince Charles certainly backs up this statement.

Sir Alan Duncan also said: “You can see the children just now and the way in which he’s so approachable and talks to them in a very natural way, the Royal Family are our great, great national resource, if you like”

The monarchy plays an important role in the UK’s international diplomacy, and they are seen as some of the nation’s most important diplomatical figures. The soft style diplomacy of the Royal Family is key to renewing ties and building bonds with other nations. Their role has increased following the Brexit vote, with several royals visiting EU and other countries in what is seen as an attempt to foster relations.

By the end of 2017, the Royal Family ill have visited the majority of the EU’s major member states.

Prince Charles spoke highly of the relationship between Itlay and the UK and said: “It is also a force for good in the world.

“The United Kingdom and Italy are Europe’s two biggest contributors to global peacekeeping. Together, we are fighting Daesh; tackling the challenges of mass migration and climate change; and striving to defend the values we share – of pluralistic, democracy, and human rights.”
