Rural farmers in India can now market and transport their crops at a click of a button, thanks to a new application unveiled by Prince Charles at the annual gala dinner of the British Asian Trust (BAT) in London.
The Digital Green App, part of the BAT’s Rural Livelihood Fund , was created by the Trust and has won the support of the Indian government. It comes as HRH continues to advocate the idea of establishing a dedicated fund to support the agriculture sector in India.
Speaking at the dinner, the Prince of Wales praised the innovative idea.
‘’Another programme with great potential which my Trust launched recently is the Rural Livelihoods Fund Through this initiative we will be able to support locally-led solutions such as the Digital Green App, which as I have seen allows farmers to sell their crops and arrange the transport for the crop all online and in a totally transparent way… I was determined to do something practical to help smallholder farmers in India. Happily, I was not alone.’’
The new app comes as the BAT celebrates 10 years since its inception, during which more than three million people have been supported. HRH, the charity’s founder and president, has been engaging with entrepreneurs of the British Asian diaspora to link them their counterparts in the region.
He told the crowd at the dinner that he was not surprised by the great achievements and the generosity of this community.
‘’I must say, I had no idea then that my British Asian Trust would go on to transform the lives of over 3 million people in South Asia.
”But I have to confess that it did not come as a surprise. As a Diaspora community you have already enriched the United Kingdom beyond measure in every field of endeavour, from sport to business, not to mention food, fashion and music.’’
The start-studded gala was attended by the Duchess of Cornwall, ambassadors of the British Asian Trust as well as Secretary of State for International Development Priti Patel.
It’s nice to see one of the many projects that Prince Charles’ has sponsored, turn into a wonderful success. I probably shouldn’t say this, but his marriage to Camilla seems like such a mis-match. He is more of an aristocrat than she is. For example; He has a masters degree and an admiral work record, she is a teenage school drop out with no academic or work achievements whatsoever. I’m surprised their marriage has lasted this long. Of course, I may be prejudiced by what I read.
