Pop-star Lionel Richie, 69, has been named an ambassador for The Prince’s Trust International.
In a meeting in Barbados Tuesday night, the singer met with Prince Charles, 70, where the Prince officially named him as ambassador. Richie will now help to introduce the Trust to a global audience.
The duo caught up at a meeting for the Trust during Charles’ second leg of his Caribbean tour. Charles even took a moment to tease Richie for one of his hit songs, ‘Hello.’ Greeting the singer:
“It must have been you I was looking for.”
In a statement, Richie discussed his excitement about his new role:
“This is something the two of us together, His Royal Highness and myself, it will be something we can get together fast and get around the world.”
The Grammy winner went on to add, “between my connections and His Royal Highness’ connections, we can do a lot of good for a lot of people. Remember now, kids with dreams… that’s the whole world.”
Richie isn’t the only big name to officially join the non-profit. Last week, George and Amal Clooney, Luke Evans and Benedict Cumberbatch were just some of the names who attended a gathering at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the International organisation.
Founded in 1976, the Trust was created to help disadvantaged youth throughout Britain. The International extension of the Trust was founded in 2015. Aiming to help those between the ages of 13 to 30 in Australia, Canada, India, Barbados, Jordan, Pakistan and Malta.
The Prince of Wales and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall’s royal tour is set to wrap up on March 29th. By the end of their journey, the couple will have had 50 different engagements across ten different islands. The duo will also spend time in Cuba, making it the first ever official visit to the country by a member of the Royal Family.
