William and Kate bring Princess Charlotte home to Anmer Hall in Norfolk

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge left Kensington Palace on Wednesday with Princess Charlotte as they travelled back to their country home, Anmer Hall, in Norfolk. Charlotte’s older brother, Prince George, was also with his parents as they travelled back to their Sandringham Estate home.

As Prince William begins two weeks of paternity leave from his job as an air ambulance pilot, he and Kate will spend the first few week’s of Princess Charlotte’s life at their recently refurbished Georgian mansion. Recent refurbishments of the Sandringham home include a new roof and kitchen as well as the creation of a garden room and living quarters for the nanny.

Anmer Hall is situated just a few miles from Her Majesty’s country retreat, Sandringham House and sits in a very quaint village called Anmer in the county of Norfolk. In its current form, the house dates back to around 1802 and has formed a part of the Sandringham Estate since 1898.

It is expected that The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will reside at Anmer Hall for the next few years as they raise Prince George and Princess Charlotte with the help of a full-time nanny.

Princess Charlotte was born on Saturday 2nd May. Since her departure from the Lindo Wing, at St Mary’s Hospital, she has had two visits from her grandfather, Prince Charles, as well as a visit from her great-grandmother, The Queen, who visited her fifth great-grandchild at Kensington Palace on Tuesday.

Prior to William and Kate moving into Anmer Hall, previous occupants of this historic house have included The Duke and Duchess of Kent, who moved into the property in 1972 with their family after leasing the house from The Queen. The Kent’s moved out of Anmer in 1990 after which they went to live in Crocker End House.

Princess Charlotte’s birth was officially registered on Tuesday and in case anyone was wondering, she will be known as Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge.

The new Princess is currently fourth in the line to the throne.
