The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge, alongside Prince George and Princess Charlotte, attended a Christmas Day Church service in Berkshire this morning with the Middleton family.
The service was held at St Mark’s Church in the village of Englefield. Also present were The Duchess of Cambridge’s parents, her brother, James, and sister, Pippa.
The Cambridge family opted to spend Christmas with Carole and Michael Middleton in the village of Bucklebury this year, instead of spending the festive season with The Queen & the Royal Family in Sandringham.
The Rev Nick Wynne-Jones oversaw the service, where the congregation sang carols including Hark the Herald Angels Sing, O Little Town of Bethlehem, and O Come All Ye Faithful.
This year was Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s debut to the church on Christmas morning. In previous years, he and Princess Charlotte have been absent from the proceedings.
The church service is the only public appearance the Royal Family make on December 25th, spending the rest of the day at Sandringham House eating Christmas lunch and taking part in other festivities.
At Sandringham, senior members of The Royal Family attended the traditional church service, but with the notable absence of The Queen.
For the first time in living memory, Her Majesty stayed away from the service due to her ongoing recovery from a heavy cold.
The Queen has attended St Mary Magdalene Church every Christmas morning since 1988. Prior to this, she attended Church at Windsor.
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said: “Her Majesty The Queen will not attend Church at Sandringham this morning. The Queen continues to suffer from a heavy cold and will stay indoors to assist with recovery.
This beautiful family look relaxed and happy. I’m glad they had mild weather.
