The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge along with their two children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, have arrived in Poland for the start of what is being dubbed as a ‘Brexit diplomacy tour’.
Over the next week, the family of four will be visiting both Poland and Germany. They arrived in the Polish capital of Warsaw on Monday morning and will head back to the UK from Germany on the 21st July.
The family was greeted at Warsaw Chopin Airport by the British Ambassador to Poland, Jonathan Knott, and his wife alongside Poland’s Ambassador to the UK, Arkady Rzegocki.
This will be the first time the couple has made an official joint visit to either of the countries. Prince William made an official trip to Germany last year.
Kensington Palace said that Prince George and Princess Charlotte will be seen “on at least a couple of occasions over the course of the week”.
The Cambridge Communications Secretary said: “The Duke and Duchess are very much looking forward to this tour and are delighted with the exciting and varied programme that has been put together for it. They have decided that their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, will travel with them and we expect the children to be seen on at least a couple of occasions over the course of the week.
“They look forward to a busy and impactful tour and are grateful that they will have the opportunity to meet the Polish and German people – such important friends of the United Kingdom – as a family.”
Members of The Royal Family are currently undertaking a series of visits to European countries. As well as visiting Poland and Germany, the Cambridges also travelled to France a couple of months ago. The Duchess undertook a solo visit to Luxembourg in May.
In addition to this, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall completed a successful tour of Europe a few months ago. Other less senior royals have also visited European countries in recent months, including the Countess of Wessex’s visit to Estonia.
This is likely no coincidence. With negotiations underway for the United Kingdom to leave the European Union, The Royal Family are seen to be unofficial Brexit ambassadors. The government is keen to emphasise via these royal visits the strong friendship between the UK and Europe.
A spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: “Royal visits play a very important role in the United Kingdom’s bilateral diplomacy.
“Whilst every royal visit is unique, each visit is designed to support foreign policy objectives and promote closer ties across a range of areas, for example cultural, economic or political, between the UK and the host country.”
The royal tour to Germany is expected to strengthen relationships between the two countries following The Queen’s visit to the country in 2015.

I know this is off topic, but I was simply curious about the Duke and Duchesses marriage. Believe me when I say, I respect their privacy. I am only curious about this because there are some tabloids who are posting that Will and Kate’s marriage might be on the rocks. I greatly admire both the Duke and Duchess and only want to see them happy. Both together and individually. I’m only coming at this with a curious nature. I can only imagine how difficult it must have been for William and Harry after all the events surrounding their mother’s divorce from their father and their great loss afterwards, when the late Princess Diana was sadly lost in that tragic car accident. Diana will be forever mourned by not only her sons, but the whole world that loved her as well. In saying that, I would be deeply saddened to hear if Will and Kate ever divorced. Whatever is going on behind the scenes, I respect that is their privacy. Are the tabloids reaching though that something is going on between the Duke and Duchess? That their marriage is on the rocks? Given the recent ski trip William recently took, one would only presume their might be clouds gathering. I’m only heartfelt curious. I really and truly hope I’m honestly wrong. I don’t want to see history repeat itself. =(
