The Duke of Cambridge was in Birmingham on Sunday evening, where he presented Andy Murray with the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.
Andy Murray, who couldn’t receive his award in person, is the first athlete to ever win the award three times.
Prince William, who was sat next to Jessica Ennis-Hill, also presented a special award during the ceremony to Michael Phelps who was presented with the lifetime achievement award.
When presenting the Michael Phelps with his prize, the Prince said:
“It’s a huge honour for me to be here this evening for what has been an incredibly memorable year for sport.
“It’s also a particular privilege to be here tonight Michael to give you your Lifetime Achievement Award.
“You’re one of the greatest sporting icons the world has ever had.
“Your 23 gold medals, never mind all the other colours, pales into sheer superhuman history.
“You should be so proud of your achievements and it will be many many years, if ever before anyone stands here again and calls you the greatest athlete in history so many many congratulations and hopefully your retirement gives somebody else the chance now.”
The Sports Personality of the Year Awards were this year held in the Genting Arena in Birmingham, and was hosted by Gary Lineker, Clare Balding and Gabby Logan.
Andy Murray won the 2016 prize, with Alistair Brownlee finishing in second place and Nick Skelton finishing in third place.
This is the third time the Scottish Tennis has won the award, having previously received it in 2013 and 2015.
Other contenders on the shortlist included Mo Farah, Kadeena Cox, Dame Sarah Storey.
Husband and wife gold medal winners, Jason and Laura Kenny were also nominated for the award.
