Prince & Princess of Wales

Prince George meets the Obamas

Prince George made a surprise appearance last night to meet his first American President and he was in his pyjamas! Prince George was wearing a robe embroidered with his name, blue pyjamas and slippers as he met President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. Prince George was seen shaking the President’s hand and he was seen riding a rocking horse, which had been a gift from the Obamas when he was born.

Prince George may have been allowed to stay up late to meet the President and the First Lady, his sister Princess Charlotte was already fast asleep by the time the Obamas arrived. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry hosted a private dinner for the President and the First Lady, who had lunch at Buckingham Palace with Her Majesty The Queen. The dinner was arranged by The Duke of Cambridge on behalf of all three.

It was not the first time The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge met the First Couple. They met for the first time at Buckingham Palace in 2011, just after the royal wedding and it was their first joint engagement as a married couple. The Duke of Cambridge visited the President in Washington in 2014, where he discussed illegal wildlife trafficking. Prince Harry actually hosted First Lady Michelle Obama and her daughters Malia and Sasha, and grandmother Marian Robinson last June for tea at Kensington Palace. Prince Harry visited Washington in October, where he was hosted by the President and the First Lady and he will be with the First Lady next month when they are in Orlando for Prince Harry’s Invictus Games for veterans.
