But who is Mr Case, what were his previous roles, and what can he bring to Kensington Palace?

Until his appointment as Private Secretary, Simon Case was Director General Northern Ireland and Ireland in the Department for Exiting the European Union.

In this role, he was in charge of negotiating the tricky issue of the Irish border post-Brexit.

He was in David Davis’s Brexit department for little under a year, being appointed in May 2017 to “lead the UK Government’s work on exiting and seeking a new partnership with the European Union within the UK Representation to the EU”.

Prior to this, we worked at 10 Downing Street in the capacity of Principal Private Secretary for the Prime Minister. He was in this role between 2016-2017, serving both David Cameron and Theresa May during parts of their premierships.

He worked his way up to this position after previously serving as Deputy Principal Private Secretary to the Prime Minister.

In 2015, he joined the government’s intelligence and security organisation, GCHQ, as Director of Strategy.

Mr Case has been a civil servant for over a decade. His first role was within the Ministry of Defence as a policy adviser. He then worked in the Northern Ireland Office and the Cabinet Office.

In 2012, he served as Head of the Olympic Secretariat, a temporary role within the Cabinet Office that was set up to oversee the delivery of the 2012 London Summer Olympics.

Mr Case replaces Miguel Head as Private Secretary to Prince William.

Mr Head had served the Cambridge Family for a decade, and his departure will be felt within the corridors of Kensington Palace.
