Prince & Princess of Wales

Eddie Redmayne ‘felt sorry’ for William playing rugby at school

Eddie Redmayne has revealed he felt sorry for The Duke of Cambridge when he played rugby at school.

The pair both attended Eton College, with famous alumni including Prime Ministers David Cameron and William Gladstone, actor Hugh Laurie, author and intelligence officer Ian Fleming and tv personality Bear Grylls.

Speaking to Glamour Magazine, the newly married A-Lister said that everyone wanted to tackle Prince William of Wales when playing the contact sport, because of who he was. (Let’s be honest – when else could anyone do that and get away with it?)

Eddie explains:

“We were on the same rugby team at Eton College. I always felt slightly sorry for him because everyone wanted to tackle the future King of England. He took all the hits.”

Redmayne also complimented the second-in-line saying that William is ‘a wonderful man’, but has said in the past that The Duke did not share an interest or passion in music and drama, even though the pair were both part of the Eton Society, an exclusive group of prefects, initially a debating group.

The now 33-year-old actor trained as a chorister at school, while the soon-to-be father of two captained a football team and played water polo.

He joked: “I don’t think singing was his thing.”
