He has just wrapped up a successful week-long tour in Canada, and it will be business as usual for Prince William as soon as he returns home.
The Duke of Cambridge will be presenting the Ministry of Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Awards, during a ceremony at the Royal Hospital Chelsea on Wednesday, 12 October.
The scheme was launched by former Prince Minister David Cameron in August 2014 to recognise British businesses’ support for the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant, delivering on a promise that those who have served in the Armed Forces are treated fairly. This includes supporting the reserves, service leavers, Armed Forces veterans and the wounded.
This year’s ceremony will see the second to the throne present the Awards to organisaions from across the country who have supported members of the Armed Forces and their families with training, work placements and employment. He is expected to meet some of the participants and chat with the winners.
The list of awardees includes large and small companies from various sectors, such as engineering, investment, healthcare and technology.
The Employer Recognition Scheme encompasses three award tiers: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Employers can sign up themselves for the Bronze award, while individuals can nominate an organisation for either a Gold or Silver award. Employers have to first pledge, then demonstrate and advocate their support for the Armed Forces.
Royal Hospital Chelsea is retirement home for nearly 300 army veterans. It welcomes former soldiers over the age of 65. Some of its residents include those who served in the Falkland War, Korea, Northern Ireland the World War II.
Prince William is expected to attend the ceremony without the Duchess, who will be in the Netherlands for a day of official engagements 24 hours earlier.
