All the details of the huge birthday party planned for a princess – and there’s an elephant involved

Denmark’s Princess Isabella turns 18 this month and her royal family will be celebrating in style.

The elder daughter of King Frederik and Queen Mary turns 18 on 21 April, which is Easter Monday. Therefore, her birthday celebrations will happen earlier and be split over two days with parties on 11 and 15 April.

There will also be two locations for these public events. Princess Isabella’s 18th birthday celebrations will take place in Aarhus and Copenhagen, with a party at Aarhus City Hall and an event at the Royal Danish Theatre.

On 11 April, Princess Isabella will celebrate her birthday and celebrate Aarhus’s young people who make their living in creative fields. And it promises to be quite the party.

The Danish Royal Court revealed that a sustainable fashion show, a youth-oriented concert, dancers-in-training performing, and a birthday cake baked by vocational education students will be among the day’s events.

In addition, 100 young people from organisations in the area and a further 50 Aarhusians chosen by lottery, will make the guest list.

And that’s just the beginning of the festivities.

On 15 April, Princess Isabella and her family will visit the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen for a performance. The programme will be televised and over 1,000 young people from across Denmark, the Faroe Islands, and Greenland, will be invited to apply to a lottery for tickets to the birthday event.

Princess Isabella’s 18th birthday celebrations will pay tribute “to the communities of the young generation with culture, creativity, sustainability and volunteerism as the principal elements,” according to the Danish Royal Court.

Another special element to the day? After receiving the Order of the Elephant upon her father’s accession on 14 January of last year, Princess Isabella will be officially entitled to use the Order once she reaches her 18th birthday.

However, another royal question remains for the princess. The theatre performance will be a gala event but it’s not known whether it will be a chance for the second in line to the Danish throne to wear a tiara in public for the first time.

Isabella Henrietta Ingrid Margrethe was born on April 21 2007 and is currently second in line to the Danish throne behind her elder brother, Crown Prince Christian.
