Prince Joachim of Denmark, younger son of Queen Margrethe II, is in a stable condition in hospital after being rushed in with a blood clot on his brain.

The Prince, who is 51, underwent what has been described as a successful operation on July 24th, soon after being admitted as an emergency patient to the University Hospital of Toulouse.

Princess Marie is at her husband’s bedside.

In a short statement, the Danish Royal Household said that ”His Royal Highness Prince Joachim was admitted to the University Hospital of Toulouse, France, late last night. The prince was then immediately operated on for a blood clot in the brain and the operation was successful. The condition of His Royal Highness is stable today.”

”The Royal House does not currently have further information” the statement continued, adding ”Her Royal Highness Princess Marie is with her husband.”

Queen Margrethe has asked for the public to respect the family’s privacy during this time.

Joachim, who is sixth in line to the throne of Denmark, is the second son of Queen Margrethe and her late husband, Prince Henrik.

He is currently living in France with Marie and their two children where he has been undertaking training at the French Military Academy, the École Militaire. The family were holidaying at the Chateau de Cayx when Joachim was taken ill.
