Crown Princess Mary tests positive for Covid

Frederik, Mary, Christian, Isabella, Vincent, Josephine

The Danish Royal Household has announced that Crown Princess Mary has tested positive for COVID-19.

The news came via a statement from the Court in the early afternoon of 15th December 2021.

The announcement said that the Crown Princess is currently alone in self-isolation, and will come out of it once it is safe to do so in accordance with current health safety guidelines from the Danish government and healthcare experts.

No other member of her family has so far tested positive, and Crown Princess Mary will continue to isolate at Frederik VIII’s Palace in Amalienborg.

The diagnosis comes almost exactly one year after her eldest child, Prince Christian, tested positive himself, in December of 2020.

On that occasion, it was swift action that prevented the rest of the family from catching the infection, and the Crown Prince and Princess and their three youngest children Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine all tested negative.

All of them are now in the age group that has vaccines available, but, besides Crown Prince Frederik, who posted a picture of him receiving his first dose, it has not been revealed whether any of the other members of the family have received their jabs.

However, as Crown Princess Mary is a vaccine ambassador for the World Health Organisation, it is reasonable to believe that the entire family has been inoculated.

This new diagnosis comes as Europe deals with the prospect of another wave of infections, this time sparked both by the colder climate that is forcing more and more people in indoor spaces, and by the appearance of a new variant, which the WHO has named Omicron, which is set to overtake Delta as the dominant strain on the continent before the new year, according to EMA’s newest calculations.

It has not been revealed what strain of the virus Crown Princess Mary has been diagnosed with.

Royal Central will bring you the latest on this story as it develops.
