Princess Beatrice of York is set to join a large number of celebrities and influential people as they attempt the STRIVE Challenge in August.

The STRIVE Challenge is mass endurance event organised by Virgin Group founder Richard Branson’s son, Sam. In it, participants will try to get from London to the summit of the Matterhorn in the Alps using only human power.

Organised as a fundraiser for Big Change, a charitable trust that is involved with youth charity projects that make a difference to the lives of young people throughout the UK. The charity was founded by six friends, including Sam Branson, his sister Holly and Princess Beatrice.

The STRIVE Challenge was officially launched on Wednesday at The O2 in London. The launch saw many members of the team climb to the top of the building, before posing for photos. In attendance were the Princess, Holly Branson, and Sam’s wife Isabella.

The Challenge will last for 31 days, beginning on 7th August and ending on 6th September. A core team of twenty people, including Sam Branson, the event co-founder Noah Devereux and Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli, will run three marathons from London to Dover, before rowing the English Channel and cycling over 900 km to Verbier, Switzerland, where they will hike across the Alps and scale the Matterhorn.

Along the way, they will be joined by 350 extra participants to aid their effort. Among these are singer Ed Sheeran, comedian Jack Whitehall and this year’s Winner of The Voice, Jermaine Jackman. Princess Beatrice is also a part of this group.

This is not the first time that Princess Beatrice has participated in such an athletic event. In 2010, she became the first member of the Royal Family to complete the London Marathon, and in 2012, she joined members of the public as they too part in a 5 mile run around the Olympic Park in London.

Despite her charity work, Buckingham Palace has previously made clear that it isn’t the intention for Princess Beatrice to become a full time working member of the Royal Family and that she will continue to pursue her own career as well as supporting various charities.

Princess Beatrice’s long-term boyfriend, Dave Clark, work for Virgin Galactic on their space travel programme.
