Princess Beatrice takes to the courts at the Necker Tennis Cup

Princess Beatrice of York has travelled to Necker Island, a 74-acre private island owned by Sir Richard Branson, to take part in the 2013 Necker Cup – described by organisers as the ‘most exclusive professional and amateur tennis event in the world’.

Beatrice, who is 6th in line to the throne, was photographed by tennis star Boris Becker alongside former number 1 tennis player Ana Ivanovuc with racquet in hand as she joined in at the 5-day tennis competition.

The annual event is attended by professional and amateur alike with mixed ability teams. The competition’s website states, “Sixteen ATP / WTA Tour Players/Legends are paired up with sixteen amateur teams of all levels, who compete in this fun and spirited tennis event.”

Princess Beatrice’s boyfriend, Dave Clark, works for the Virgin Galactic branch of Richard Branson’s group and the two share a close friendship with the Branson family. The Princess herself has worked on charitable events before with Holly Branson, Sir Richard’s daughter.

Other notable participants at the event include current tennis number one, Rafael Nadal and Boris Becker’s wife, Lilly Becker.

The visit to the tournament is a private one we’re told and is not part of any organised series of engagements for the Princess. Despite her increasing number of public appearances, Royal Central has been told recently that Princess Beatrice does not intend to become a full time member of the Royal Family and looks to continue her career in finance, taking interviews recently for potential jobs.

Her Royal Highness’s sister, Princess Eugenie, is currently working in New York as a Benefits Auction Manager for auction firm Paddle8 and completed her move to the Big Apple last month, accompanied by her sister; mother Sarah, Duchess of York and also father the Duke of York.
