Who were the foreign royal guests at Princess Eugenie and Jack’s wedding?

Whilst many eyes on Friday were looking at the Hollywood “A” listers who attended Prince Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s wedding at Windsor, there were also many representatives of both our royal family and foreign royal families in attendance who had some connection with the couple. Let us take a look at them, together with their links to the couple and our Royal Family.

Crown Prince Pavlos and Crown Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece, together with their daughter, Princess Maria-Olympia and Pavlos’s youngest brother, Prince Philippos. The British and Greek royal families have led close-links including of course the marriage of our current Queen to Prince Philip who was a member of the Greek Royal Family. In addition to that, both Princess Eugenie and Crown Princess Marie-Chantal have an interest in fine art. London-born Marie-Chantal started a degree in Fine Art at New York Universiy, before Crown Prince Pavlos swept her off her feet. She is currently a trustee of the Royal Academy Trust.

There were also representatives of the Royal Family of Hanover, Princess Chantal of Hanover is the former wife of Prince Ernst August, she currently lives in Monaco and was joined with her sons Prince Christian and Prince Ernst August, and their wives, Princess Alessandra and Princess Ekaterina, respectively. Prince Christian and Prince Ernst August grew up in the outskirts of London, and indeed, Prince Ernst August is a lover and collector of fine art who commutes between homes in London and Hanover.

Hereditary Prince Franz-Albrecht and Hereditary Princess Cleopatra zu Oettingen-Oettingen und Oettingen-Spielberg are close friends of the young British royals, Prince Harry attended their wedding in Bavaria, and in the past, both Prince Harry and Prince William have been out to stay with them on hunting expeditions. Their close connections got even closer more recently as Lord Max Percy, the youngest son of the Duke of Northumberland married the Hereditary Prince’s sister, Princess Nora.

Also present was the Marquis of Milford Haven, together with his second wife Clare, Marchioness of Milford Haven and his daughter Lady Tatiana Mountbatten. It is Lady Tatiana that gives away the connection; they are related to the German Battenbourg dynasty and of course Prince Charles’ favourite uncle – Lord Mountbatten of Burma. The Marquis, like Princes William and Harry, is a keen polo player and their family seat is in Sussex.
