The Duke of York returns to UK from Mexico trip

The Queen’s third child, Prince Andrew, the Duke of York has returned from Mexico where he was overseeing the work with Pitch@Palace LATAM.

Taking place in Puebla, Mexico, eight lucky entrepreneurs pitched their start-ups to be awarded the chance to make it to the final round of pitching at St. James’s Palace next month on 6 December.

The pitches were part of Ciudad de las Ideas, a festival celebrating new ideas.

Pitch@Palace’s aim is “to bring together & showcase entrepreneurs from a number of key markets” according to the Duke of York’s Twitter page. So far “alumni have generated over £400 million of economic activity across the globe.”

Before the entrepreneurs hit the stage, Prince Andrew took time to chat with all of them in an informal setting.

Some of the companies being pitched were:

Gammakat which is “developing projects to transform municipal solid waste into synthetic diesel, to reduce waste and CO2 levels in Mexico.”

Relativity6 that “uses machine learning and artificial intelligence to discover effective ways to re-engage customers.”

VisionICH that “offers high-quality lenses at low cost for those who wouldn’t otherwise have access to eye care and creates glasses frames from recycled plastic.”

Interacpedia “connects university talent to the global innovation ecosystem, helping student projects generate value in society.”

Biosense Tech that “innovates wearable technology that provides simple solutions to improve the quality of life for patients with diabetes.”

WeaRobot “designs and builds wearable robots, which can be used as motion assistant, rehabilitation or human augmentation devices.”

And lastly, Someone Somewhere which “is a social enterprise and lifestyle brand with a mission to support millions of artisans in Mexico out of poverty.”

Someone Somewhere and VisionICH came out on top and will now have the chance to pitch again in London.

The Pitch@Palace event took place on 17 November, to which the Duke of York left the UK on the 15th to arrive on time. He was accompanied by his private secretary Amanda Thirsk.
