As patron, Princess Beatrice congratulates Edinburgh Children’s Hospital charity on new name

Princess Beatrice of York is the Patron of the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital charity, (ECHC). The hospital associated with the charity has changed its name from the Royal Hospital for Sick Children to The Royal Hospital for Children and Young People to better reflect its services.

Currently, the hospital is located in Sciennes; but it will be moving to a new state-of-the-art building early next year at Little France. The specific services provided by the charity have expanded both in medical type and location, as quoted on the charity’s website they not only support the hospital in Edinburgh but also provide support at ” St John’s Hospital in Livingston (children’s ward, A&E, radiology), and various community healthcare settings across the Lothians, Borders and Fife.

“We have also recently begun to extend the amount of support we give to Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).

“Each year our work reaches over 110,000 babies, children and young people from all across Scotland.”

They stress on their website that they wanted to create a place where children of all ages can be kids first and patients second. Nothing should get in the way of children being children.

“We support and complement the work of Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Sick Children (The Sick Kids) as well as other children’s healthcare settings across Scotland.”

Princess Beatrice released a statement congratulating the hospital: “Congratulations to Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity on your new name. I believe this change will allow you to continue the good work of The Sick Kids Friends Foundation and look ahead to opportunities which the new children’s hospital brings. Your new identity reflects the charity’s ambition to transform the experiences of babies, children and young people in hospital. I look forward to continuing my support of this worthy cause, as you work towards your vision for the future.”
