Her Royal Highness the Countess of Wessex will be in Taunton next Tuesday, 13 March to visit Musgrove Park Hospital in her role as Royal Patron of Love Musgrove’s MRI Million appeal.
Love Musgrove – the hospital’s official charity – is currently in the midst of a fundraising appeal to raise the revenue needed for a third MRI scanner at Musgrove Park Hospital. The machine is a badly needed addition to the hospital and would contribute to a decrease in waiting times. It would also improve the hospital’s overall scanning capacity, allowing it to participate in ground-breaking research programmes. The campaign has raised an incredible £646,000 thus far thanks to the generosity of people across Somerset and beyond.
Brian Perowne, the Chairman of Love Musgrove, said: “The support of the community has been phenomenal. With events from open gardens to quiz nights, marathons to race days, people across Somerset are really behind this campaign.”
During her visit the Countess will tour the hospital’s radiology department, meeting with staff members and volunteers before travelling to Somerset Country Cricket Club at the Copper Associates Country Ground to attend a reception.
Hospital chairman Colin Drummond said: “It is an honour and privilege to have The Countess of Wessex as our Royal Patron, and we are truly delighted to have her support. HRH is a long standing charitable supporter and her role with Love Musgrove will help to highlight our £1 million campaign and give us the boost needed to help us to achieve our target.
“We look forward to welcoming Her Royal Highness to Musgrove, when she will have the opportunity to meet some of our staff who work so hard to ensure patients have the best care possible.”
Other patrons of the campaign include cricketer Marcus Trescothick, Lord Lieutenant for Somerset Mrs Annie Maw and former Lord Lieutenant Lady Elizabeth Gass.
