Caring Countess of Wessex moved to tears at Festival of Remembrance

The Countess of Wessex was moved to tears on Saturday evening when she joined The Queen and members of the Royal Family at the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall.

Sophie, who is married to The Queen’s youngest son, Prince Edward, broke into tears when families of Afghanistan war heroes were introduced at the Royal Albert Hall.

Both her and Edward appeared emotional as the family members walked onto the stage during the annual event.

The Festival of Remembrance, which included performances by James Blunt, Katie Melua and the Poppy Girls, who are releasing this years Poppy Appeal fundraising song ‘The Call’, was to honour those who have died fighting for this country.

As emotions ran high, viewers took to Twitter to show comment on the Countess’s tears. One tweeted “Countess of Wessex getting emotional at the festival of remembrance is sad” while another tweeted “Seeing Sophie with tears was a very emotional moment”.

Earlier this year, Sophie showed her sensitive side when she was brought to tears at the unveiling of a memorial to miners who worked in the British coal mines during the Second World War.

The mother-of-two, embraced the memorial’s designer Harry Parkes, 87, as she attended the ceremony in April at the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, Staffordshire, which recognised the work of the former miners, known as the Bevin Boys.

Saturday evening’s show at the Royal Albert Hall is just one of the events the Royal Family are attending to mark this year’s Remembrance Sunday.

On Thursday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge held a reception for London Poppy Appeal staff and volunteers at Kensington Palace.

The Royal couple then travelled to High Street Kensington Tube station where they surprised commuters as they met more volunteers.

Prince Philip and Prince Harry also showed their support when they visited the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey on a rare joint engagement.

Tomorrow, The Queen will lead the Royal Family and the nation at the Cenotaph for the Remembrance Sunday service.

The whole Royal Family will join Her Majesty and members who have served in the Armed Forces will lay a wreath at the Cenotaph. Other members of the Royal Family, including the Countess of Wessex and Duchess of Cambridge, will watch on from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office – overlooking the Cenotaph.
