Want to plan garden parties? The Queen is hiring

Fancy getting a front-row seat to some of the most exclusive occasions in the world? If you’ve got event planning experience, the Royal Household might just have the job for you. A vacancy for an events coordinator was posted on their website, and you don’t even need a degree to apply.

“It’s knowing the part you’ve played in delivering exceptional events,” the job description reads. “It’s the sheer variety of challenges you’ll face. And it’s presenting ceremonial activities that are enjoyed and valued by millions. This is what makes working for the Royal Household so different.”

The events coordinator, based in the Lord Chamberlain’s office, will research and plan large-scale royal events such as investitures, garden parties, and state occasions. The coordinator also will liaise with external vendors and work alongside operational teams to provide support on the day to ensure everything is delivered to the highest standard.

The Royal Household stresses “the standards you’ll aim for will provide the biggest challenge and the greatest reward.”

Prior administrative and IT skills will be essential, as the coordinator must handle all the administration behind the events, including diary management, coordinating travel, and website updates.

In addition, the household is looking for someone on who can “think on your feet and adapt in the moment to handle multiple priorities with ease” and who is confident interacting with a wide range of organisations and people, including VIPs.

Whilst it is not a requirement, some practical knowledge of the offices of state, the church, and the military would be an advantage to the role.

The events coordinator role pays £27,000 per annum, dependent on experience, and includes a full benefits package “including 33 days holiday per annum (inclusive of Bank Holidays), a 15% employer contribution pension scheme (with the option for flexibility to increase contributions or draw down as salary) and support for your continued professional development.”

If you’re ready to put your event-planning hat on – and you’re a UK citizen or have legal right to work in the UK – apply on the Royal Household website by 7th June.
