This Week in Royal Fashion: Easter Sunday, Sophie at RAF Wittering and Kate at ANZAC Day

After a bit of drought, it was a jam-packed British royal fashion week, with most of the family members making an appearance at church on Easter Sunday, and Sophie and Kate both carrying out engagements. Let’s take a look at some fashion highlights:

Easter Sunday at St George’s Chapel

The Queen celebrated Easter and her 93rd birthday with family, attending church at St George’s Chapel in Windsor. Although it was difficult to choose, I’ve narrowed it down to my four favourite outfits from the day.

The Duchess of Cambridge looked elegant in a repeat funnel-neck coat by Alexander McQueen and bespoke Jane Taylor hat. The dove grey ensemble has only been seen once, on Easter Sunday in 2014 when the Cambridges were in Australia. This time she added some sparkle to the outfit with her wedding earrings  – interestingly, this is only the third time she’s worn them. Catherine also wore the diamond oak leaf and acorn brooch that is thought to have been a gift from her family.

Although there weren’t many photos of her from the day, Princess Beatrice stood out from the crowd wearing blue-and-pink embroidered Claire Mischevani. The designer shared a photo on Instagram, saying “HRH Princess Beatrice looking so beautiful, arriving at the Easter Sunday service, in Windsor Wearing our soft blue a-line pleat dress, embossed in rose gold.”

She added a bespoke Juliette Botterill hat, which the milliner also shared a photo of on Instagram. The creation features blue and pink flowers and curls that match the embroidery of her dress. Princess Eugenie also wore a Juliette Botterill creation last week at the chapel’s Maundy Thursday service.

The Countess of Wessex repeated one of my recent favourite outfits of hers, a silk floral print midi dress by Oscar de la Renta. Even though it’s black, the dress’s bright white and green pattern is instantly spring-like. Sophie topped off her look with a bold floral hat.

Meanwhile, her daughter Lady Louise wore the Reiss “Allie” floral burnout dress, according to Victoria Howard of Replicate Royalty. The frock is currently in their sale for £115 in limited sizes, and she wore it along with a tiny navy fascinator. It’s great to see 15-year-old Louise growing up and forming her own sense of style, and this look is appropriate but still young and fresh.

Sophie visits RAF Wittering

The Countess of Wessex looked amazing again on Wednesday – albeit a bit dressed up for a play park – when she visited Wittering to officially open the new playground made possible by the RAF Benevolent Fund. My full report on the event is here, but let’s take a look at the fashion.

Sophie wore a cream Max Mara dress, the now sold out “belted stretch-cady midi dress” per Anna Nowak of the HRH Countess of Wessex blog. She covered up the sleeveless dress with a previously worn, unidentified navy blazer and sported the RAF Wittering pin on her lapel.

Her grey suede shoes were absolutely my favourite part of the outfit, and I thought they gave off some retro, Downton Abbey-esque vibes. According to Replicate Royalty, she wore the £239 “Tango” style from Penelope Chilvers, which are still available in all sizes.

“Inspired by the passion of the Argentine Tango, our closed-toe party style has a straight high-heel that gives it both elegance and authority,” the designer’s website says. “Designed in Spanish taupe suede, the tango can be worn with all varieties of colour or texture. A striking silhouette for the parties ahead.”

The Duchess of Cambridge at the ANZAC Day service

Our last look of the week is from the Duchess of Cambridge, who joined the Duke of Sussex and Duke of Gloucester at Thursday’s ANZAC Day service at Westminster Abbey.

Catherine stepped out in a new Catherine Walker coat dress in a beautiful shade of peacock blue. The outfit features a funnel neck – her second one this week –  and three buttons up the front, with the piece flaring out into a full, pleated skirt. It’s a safe look for the Duchess, but she knows what works for her frame and sticks to it.

Her new hat, a structured beret style crowned with feathers, is the “Varick” hat from Rosie Olivia Millinery, per UFO No More. It’s lovely to see her support a designer who started her business with help from the Princes Trust; according to the Rosie Olivia website, she set up the millinery in 2011 after completing their Enterprise Programme.

The Duchess accessorised with green heels and a clutch that coordinated with the shade of her hat’s feathers, both by Emmy London. She added a poppy pin, and sparkling pale blue topaz pieces from her favourite jewellery designer, Kiki McDonough, who posted a photo on Instagram saying: “The Duchess of Cambridge brightening up a rainy day with blue topaz Classic earrings and Eden necklace in white gold.”

Next week we’ll have details on Sophie’s trip to India, Kate’s visit to the Anna Freud Centre of Excellence, and just maybe a first look at Meghan with Baby Sussex.
