The Queen’s annual Christmas Day message will this year pay tribute to the cities of London and Manchester for their response to the numerous terror attacks which have occurred in the past 365 days.
In her speech, Her Majesty praises how London and Manchester’s “powerful identities” have “shone through” adversity.
The Queen will say: “This Christmas, I think of London and Manchester, whose powerful identities shone through over the past 12 months in the face of appalling attacks.”
The 91-year-old monarch will also celebrate and thank her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, for his support in the year of their 70th wedding anniversary.
She also referred to her husband’s “unique sense of humour.”
Prince Philip retired from public duties earlier this year, and it is expected The Queen will acknowledge his contribution to society since she took the throne 65 years ago.
The Queen’s speech was filmed last week at Buckingham Palace in the 1844 Room.
Her Majesty is dressed in an ivory white dress by Angela Kelly. She first wore this item in 2012 during the memorable Diamond Jubilee Thames River Pageant.
She and her family are now at Sandringham where they will celebrate Christmas together.
Also attending Sandringham this year is Prince Harry’s fiancee, Meghan Markle, who has become the first fiancee to spend Christmas with The Queen.
The Queen’s speech will be broadcast on BBC, ITV and Sky at 3pm.
