The Queen’s Christmas Broadcast once again tops Christmas TV ratings

The Queen’s Christmas Day Broadcast has once again topped the TV ratings as more than 6.4 million viewers tuned in to watch the message in the UK alone.

The traditional speech was watched by a combined 6.4 million people on the BBC, ITV and Sky. The true figure is probably much higher, however, as it does not include the people watching online.

The figures are significantly slightly down on last year, however, when 7.6 million UK viewers tuned in to hear Her Majesty speak.

In second place during the Christmas Day ratings was BBC One’s Michael McIntyre’s Big Christmas Show, with 6.1 million viewers tuning in.

In her broadcast, The Queen told the nation to overcome their “deeply held differences” for the better.

In her televised message, The Queen said: “Even with the most deeply held differences, treating the other person with respect and as a fellow human being is always a good first step towards greater understanding.”

With Britain in the middle of the Brexit deadlock, some experts suggest that Her Majesty’s speech is subtly aimed at the political discourse engulfing the country.
