The Queen has returned to London after spending her traditional Christmas break at Sandringham.
The Monarch was spotted departing King’s Lynn on Monday morning wearing a grey and white mix coat over a beige dress before boarding a train back to London.
Her Majesty spent around one and a half months in Norfolk for her winter break. She left London by train back in December, and as per tradition, did not return to the capital city until after Accession Day on February 6.
Leaving Sandringham will, perhaps, be a time tinged with sadness for the Monarch. Her departure comes just days after Accession Day, when the then Princess Elizabeth officially became Queen following the death of her father, King George VI.
He died at Sandringham House while Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh were in Kenya, on tour of the Commonwealth.
The Duke of Edinburgh is staying on a little longer at Sandringham. Therefore, The Queen travelled solo on her way back to the capital city.
Once the Royal Standard is flying above Buckingham Palace, The Queen will get straight back to work reading her ministerial red boxes and government correspondence.
Despite being 92-years of age, Her Majesty has a busy diary ahead of her and will be carrying out a number of engagements over the next few weeks.
Sandringham has been privately owned by the royal family since 1862 after it was purchased by Queen Victoria at the request of her son and future King, Prince Edward.
It has remained close to the royals since, and many members of The Royal Family gather here every year for the festive season.
