The award was also given to Her Majesty in recognition of her unparalleled commitment and contribution to horse racing for more than 60 years.

The Monarch won the award at the 32nd annual Horseracing Awards which are sponsored by Weatherbys Hamilton, at London’s InterContinental Hotel.

John Warren, the Queen’s racing manager, collected the award on behalf of the Queen alongside his daughter, Susannah.

ROA president Rachel Hood said: “British racing has been incredibly fortunate to benefit from Her Majesty The Queen’s lifelong support and the remarkable success of Estimate in the Ascot Gold Cup was a very special occasion for the entire sport.

On behalf of all racehorse owners, the Racehorse Owners Association is honoured and delighted to present the 2013 Racehorse Owner of the Year to The Queen.”

The Queen’s Gold Cup winning horse Estimate also won an award on Thursday night for the Outstanding Stayer. The horse’s trainer, Sir Michael Stout, collected that award for her.

Other awards won that night went to some of the world’s most phenomenal horses with Sprinter Sacre winning the Horse of the Year award and Outstanding Chaser. Caroline Mould-owned Sprinter Sacre is unbeaten over fences and is a winner at all of the big meetings: the Aintree Grand National meeting, the Cheltenham Festival and Punchestown Festival.

The Monarch was not the only owner to end the evening with two awards. Sheikh Joaan Al Thani also won two awards for his Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Treve which won the Outstanding Middle Distance horse and Outstanding Filly and Mare.
