The Queen has sent a message of thanks to all of the firefighters and volunteers in Australia who have been tackling some of the worse bush fires in recent times.

The Queen sent her "sincere thanks and appreciation" to the firefighters and volunteers.

The Queen sent her “sincere thanks and appreciation” to the firefighters and volunteers.

More than 100 people have had to receive hospital treatment, whilst at least 38 homes have been destroyed and countless livestock has died.

“Prince Philip and I send our sincere thanks and appreciation to the hundreds of firefighters and community volunteers who have risked their lives to contain the bushfires in South Australia and Victoria.

Our thoughts are with the families who have lost their homes and personal possessions in the fires.

I commend the courage and fortitude of the men and women who continue to assist with the emergency operations and those who are providing support to the people who are directly affected.

Elizabeth R.”

Firefighters believe that most of the fires are now under control; and with rain forecast later this week it is hoped that they will become extinguished.

Australia frequently suffers from bush-fires, the most notable occurred in 2009 where the ‘Black Saturday’ killed 173 people and destroyed over 2000 homes.
