The President of Mexico, Señor Enrique Peña Nieto and his wife Señora Angélica Rivera de Peña, will pay a state visit to the United Kingdom as guests of The Queen. The three-day State Visit is from 3rd to 5th March 2015.
During their visit, the President and Señora Rivera will stay at Buckingham Palace.
Monday 2nd March
The President of the United Mexican States and Señora Rivera will arrive Monday afternoon and be greeted by The Viscount Brookeborough, Lord-in-Waiting, on behalf of Her Majesty.
Later in the day, The President will observe the signing of a Treaty and Memoranda of Understanding on Education Collaboration and Tourism Cooperation.
Tuesday 3rd March
The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will receive The President and Señora Rivera on behalf of The Queen, at the Intercontinental London Park Lane Hotel. They will then travel with The President and his wife to Horse Guards Parade, where The President will receive a Ceremonial Welcome.
The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will officially welcome The President and Señora Rivera at the Royal Pavilion on Horse Guards Parade. After the Royal Salute, the Mexican National Anthem will be played and The President, along with Prince Philip, will then inspect the Guard of Honour.
Following the ceremony at Horse Guards, The President and Señora Rivera will join The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh for a state carriage procession along The Mall to Buckingham Palace.
After a private lunch at Buckingham Palace, given by The Queen, The President and Señora Rivera will view an exhibition of Mexican related items, from the Royal Collection, in the Picture Gallery.
In the afternoon, The President and his wife will visit Clarence House where they will be received by Prince Charles, for tea in the Garden Room.
Their busy day continues as The President, and Señora Rivera will visit Westminster Abbey, where The President will lay a wreath at the Grave of the Unknown Warrior.
The President will then visit the Palace of Westminster and be greeted by The Speaker of the House of Commons and The Lord Speaker. During his visit, he will deliver an Address in the Royal Robing Room and join a reception with members of the All-Party Parliamentary Groups and other guests.
On Tuesday evening, The Queen will give a State Banquet at Buckingham Palace for The President of the United Mexican States. Her Majesty and The President will both make speeches at the start of the Banquet.
Wednesday 4th March
On Wednesday morning, The President, escorted by the Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg MP, will join the closing of the UK-Mexico Senior Business Leaders Breakfast Meeting at Buckingham Palace. After, Mr Clegg will have an official call with The President.
Later that morning, The President will deliver the Canning Lecture at Lancaster House. Following the lecture, The President will meet with the Prime Minister, David Cameron MP, at No.10 Downing Street for a bilateral meeting.
Wednesday afternoon will see The President meet at Buckingham Palace with the Leader of the Opposition, Ed Miliband, MP.
The President will then attend the “Mexico Day” Business Forum at Mansion House, where he will deliver an address.
On Wednesday evening, The President and Señora Rivera will attend a Banquet at Guildhall given by The Lord Mayor and the City of London Corporation. The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester will attend.
Thursday 5th March
The President of the United Mexican States and Señora Rivera will officially bid farewell to The Queen and Prince Philip at Buckingham Palace in the morning. They will then travel to Aberdeen where The President will meet with Alistair Carmichael, MP, and Secretary of State for Scotland.
The President will visit Robert Gordon University to meet with academics and view various energy-related presentations.
The Viscount Brookeborough, Lord-in-Waiting, will tender farewell to The President of the United Mexican States, on behalf of The Queen, at Aberdeen International Airport as the State Visit comes to a close.
The Queen and Prince Philip have paid two State Visits to the United Mexican States, in 1975 and 1983.
The Queen and her husband have hosted State Visits by Mexican Presidents in 1973, 1985 and 2009.
This State Visit comes after Charles and Camilla recent visit to Mexico in October of last year.
