Queen To Make First Overseas Visit For Two Years In Autumn

large_157868398Her Majesty The Queen is to make her first overseas visit for two years this autumn, reports are saying. This news comes just a few weeks after we heard Buckingham Palace are cutting down on the amount of long-distance travel Her Majesty is doing.

The announcement that The Queen wouldn’t be travelling to Sri Lanka for the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in November, many thought that to be the end of her overseas travelling, though today, the Telegraph’s Mandrake was told that, “Her Majesty has no intention of giving up travelling… Although the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh may make fewer overseas trips than they once did, the visits will continue.”

The Queen is now said to be preparing to make a foreign visit to Rome, a trip she was initially supposed to make in early March, though fell ill due to gastroenteritis. The trip is rumoured to include a meeting with the new Pope, elected shortly after Her Majesty was due to visit the first time.

Her Majesty hasn’t been on a foreign trip since her trip to Australia in October 2011.

Whereas Her Majesty has not travelled abroad on a trip for two years (last year not going on any foreign trips due to the Diamond Jubilee), the Duke of Edinburgh, who is expected to accompany her, has himself been travelling. In April, the Duke visited Canada, where Her Majesty is also Queen, and presented new colours to the Royal Canadian Regiment.

A Palace spokesman said to the Telegraph: “I am not in a position to confirm details of the Queen’s autumn programme so far in advance.”
