Queen to attend Household Division Beating Retreat

Her Majesty The Queen will this evening take the salute at the Household Division’s Beating Retreat on Horseguards’ Parade. The engagement, originally scheduled to be undertaken with the Duke of Edinburgh, will begin at around 8.30pm this evening.

The ceremony is a display of military music from the Massed Bands of the Household Division. The Bands of the Grenadier, Coldstream, Scots, Welsh and Irish Guards will form the massed bands and the mounted bands of the Household Division (Lifeguards and the Blues & Royals).

The ceremony is similar to Trooping the Colour, except the event only includes the bands of the Household Division.

The Beating Retreat is held every year and is attended by Her Majesty or another member of the Royal Family. Last year, HRH The Earl of Wessex took the salute for the event.

Her Majesty herself hasn’t personally taken the salute for a number of years. The Duke of Edinburgh was supposed to be accompanying The Queen, though due to his recent hospital admission, Her Majesty will now be attending without the Duke.

On Saturday, The Queen will attend a similar event at the same place called Trooping the Colour, which will be televised. It forms part of The Queen’s Official Birthday celebrations.
