The Duchess of Cornwall has long been known for her friendly nature and is one of the most popular royals amongst journalists. She is also known to personally respond to every single person who sends her a letter.
A passionate German fan of the Duchess, Tanja, runs a blog on Tumblr called “Camilla’s girl” and has written to her on different occasions. So, when she saw the Duchess and Prince of Wales were coming to her country, she decided to go in hopes of getting to shake her hand in a walkabout. Tanja did write to Her Royal Highness to say she was going to be there and hoped to meet her. What she didn’t expect was that Camilla would set up a personal meeting with her.
Tanja shared her experience on her blog saying that she received an invitation from the British Embassy in Germany at Camilla’s request. She explained, “I was asked to be present for the book signing at the old town hall. As you can imagine, I was absolutely over the moon.”
When the Duchess of Cornwall and Prince of Wales had completed the book signing, the Duchess came over to Tanja to greet her.
She added, “Camilla was wonderful and she even introduced me to Charles, who knew about my blog as well. He actually told me that I was ‘very kind’ and had done ‘a lot of good things’. Charles then joined a student group, but Camilla still stayed a while to talk to Kristina [her friend she attended with] and me. We were introduced to her press team, which was great!”
The Duchess of Cornwall posed for photos, taken by Arthur Edwards, with her fan and gave her a present in her favourite colour. Tanja has, naturally, chosen to keep what the gift was private.
Her Royal Highness made a dream come true on her German tour, and Tanja’s words sum it up nicely.
“Today has been the best day of my life, and I’m so thankful she took the trouble and time to see me and to talk to me. She really is the best person in the world, and I shall remember today all days of my life. I never thought I’d be able to love her even more, but I do. I’m enchanted more than ever and I feel so honoured and blessed.”
