Have £5 million? You could own The Queen’s Malta Villa

If you have a spare £5 million, you could own a royal holiday home. The grade 2 French estate once housed Wallis Simpson and the Duke of Windsor and was briefly a royal residence for The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.

The stunning home features six bedrooms, three bathrooms, a living room, areas for guests and staff, and a 900sqm garden. The listing for the house describes the residence as an “amazing grand Palazzo style property located just outside the outskirts and suburbs of Valletta.”

The house has stunning views, described as: “sea views over Marsamxett Harbour from the roof terrace”, with rooms that are “spacious with high ceilings” and additionally complemented by “stables, various guest/servant quarters, cellars, shelter etc.”

The residence itself is steeped in royal history. From 1949 to 1951, The Queen and Prince Philip lived on the island while the Duke served in the Royal Navy on HMS Chequers. Their time there was a chance to live briefly as “ordinary” people before the coronation. Malta is the only country outside the UK where Queen Elizabeth has ever lived. The Queen stayed in Malta until leaving to give birth to Princess Anne.

The Queen has spoken fondly of her time living in Malta saying: “Visting Malta is always very special to me. I remember happy days here with Prince Philip when we were first married.”

The home’s royal splendour has fallen into disrepair in recent years with real estate images showing weathered stonework and overgrown gardens. Despite that, the property is still selling for £5,300,000.

Several heritage organisations have spoken about the need to restore the building. With Heritage Malta saying that: talks are being held with the Royal Family to see what tangible interestest there may be for them to support this project.”

If you have a spare 5 million, or just want to see the royal residence you can do so here.
