Buckingham Palace Say “Queen Is To Reduce Amount Of Long-Haul Travel”

large_4190273146This morning, it was reported that Her Majesty The Queen will not be attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting  and instead His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales will be attending in Her Majesty’s place.

The BBC reported today that Buckingham Palace had told them that Her Majesty will be reducing the amount of long-haul travelling she does.

The Queen is the 6th oldest living Head of State in the world and the second longest reigning living Monarch in the world. Her Majesty had already surpassed many royal precedents and records and now it seems she is to reduce the amount of duties she takes on in old age and along with Prince Philip will look at handing over more duties to their children and the man who’ll one day be King, Prince Charles.

The BBC’s Royal correspondant, Peter Hunt said, “There is no intention of abdication. It will just not happen during her reign. It is the palace addressing the practicalities of her advancing age – you will see less of her and more of him.”

Recently The Queen was forced to cancel a series of engagements after being struck by a bout of gastroenteritis which saw her hospitalised for a day before making a speedy recovery.

At the age of 87, being the oldest Monarch in British history, it’s not hard to see why The Queen is looking to prepare the Prince of Wales further for his role by assigning him various duties that she would normally undertake.
