Banksy uses The Queen to apologise to Palestinians

The street artist, Banksy, is once again making headlines. This time it is for using Her Majesty The Queen in an apology to Palestinians.

Holding a royal “apology” party for Britain’s support of a Jewish homeland in Palestine, Banksy carved a royal mural into the wall that separates Gaza and Israel with the words “er sorry”.

ER also stands for Elizabeth Regina. Adding on the roman numerals II is The Queen’s cypher.

An actor dressed up as The Queen unveiled Banksy’s latest creation on Thursday which coincided with the centenary of the Balfour Declaration.

The display is outside the hotel Banksy opened last year in the West Bank. Invited for the tea party were al-Aida refugee camp children.

In a statement from Banksy, he said: “The British handle things well here – when you organise a wedding, it’s best to make sure the bride isn’t already married.

“This conflict has brought so much suffering to people on all sides, it didn’t feel appropriate to ‘celebrate’ the British role in it,”

The statement further went on to say the mural was “commissioned from a professional stone carver whose previous credits include Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey” according to Reuters.

The party didn’t last long as nearby protestors crashed the party. They were upset with the use of children in the demonstration and the use of the Union Jack for the fake apology.

The Balfour Declaration was issued by British foreign minister Arthur Balfour in 1917, which led the way for a creation of Isreal in 1948 when he promised support for “the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was in London to celebrate the centenary with British leaders including a meeting with Prime Minister Theresa May.

By the end of WW2 Britain held a Mandate for the area which was proving difficult to control. After the war The Balfour declaration regarding the establishment of a Jewish homeland also clearly stated that the interests of the Palestine people should be ensured. We now move on. After WW2 Britain was broke, war weary & the Empire was being dismantled. We now need to factor in America, who supported the establishment of a full Jewish homeland nation & also as part of its policy towards Britain, one of active dismantling of the British Empire. Britain had reached a point were it couldn’t wait to get out, they had to deal with an extremist Jewish group called the Stengun group who would go around shooting soldiers, policemen, blowing up the David Hotel killing many, then having to deal with the bobbytraped bodies of dead soldiers & policemen. We left with many unresolved issues but we basically had lost control. Now when people make these sorts of statements I just wonder how much of the historical background are they aware o, not much I would guess.
