The Royal Month in Pictures – October 2016

Another busy month of engagements has come to an end for the Royal Family. In a month which The Duchess of Cornwall pouring a pint, to the Queen shopping in Waitrose, there have been some great moments captures in pictures.

Here are Royal Central’s top 10 images in October:

10: Queen unveils new portrait of herself

Earlier in the month, Her Majesty unveiled a new portrait of herself at Windsor Castle. The portrait was commissioned to commemorate the 60 years the monarch has served as Patron of the British Red Cross.

9: Prince Charles unveils giant statue of his grandmother

A statue of The Queen Mother was unveiled in Poundbury last week by Prince Charles and The Queen. The bronze statue, which is 9ft and 6in tall now stands in the square of the new area at the edge of Dorchester in the new Poundbury development. The square itself is named after The Queen Mother

8: Prince Harry visits Nottingham

Prince Harry was in Nottingham last Wednesday where he undertook a day of engagements in the city famous for its connections with Robin Hood.

7: Duchess of Cornwall presents the Man Booker Prize

The Duchess of Cornwall presented the Man Booker Prize to author Paul Beatty, after his book, The Sellout was deemed worthy of winning the prestigious literary award. It was the third time Her Royal Highness had been tasked with presenting the prize.

6: Thai citizens mourn King Bhumibol’s death

The streets of Bangkok have been lined with thousands of mourners over the past few weeks after King Bhumibol of Thailand died following years of ill health. Queen Elizabeth II is now the world’s longest reigning living monarch.

5: The Duchess of Cornwall pours a pint

The Duchess of Cornwall got behind the bar at The Duchess of Cornwall Inn last week in Poundbury where and poured a few glasses a new beer called ‘The Duchess’ especially for the occasion. Camilla declared the pub fit for purpose, saying: “God bless her and all who drink in her.”

4: The Cambridge family depart Canada

After a week long visit to Canada, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge departed with Prince George and Charlotte at the beginning of October. The visit was thoroughly enjoyed by the couple. You can see some of the best pictures from the Canadian royal tour by clicking here

3: Prince Philip in a cable car

The Duke of Edinburgh officially opened the world’s first vertical cable car last Friday in the English seaside town of Brighton. Whilst opening the new British Airways i360, the 95-year-old Prince went for a ride on the cable car in an observation pod.

2: The Royal Family meet Olympic and Paralympic heroes

Hundreds of Team GB Olympic and Paralympic athletes descended to Buckingham Palace this month for a reception hosted by Her Majesty The Queen and other members of the Royal Family, to celebrate the sporting heroes’ success in Rio. Senior members of the Royal Family who attended the reception were The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry, the Duke of York, and Princess Anne.

1: The Queen shopping in Waitrose

The image of Her Majesty visiting Waitrose during her visit to Poundbury is a worthy contender for photograph of the year. Seeing The Queen in an everyday situation like a supermarket is unusual, yet amusing. The media have certainly had a lot of fun with this photo as well. I have lost track of all of the puns used.
