Princess Alexandra takes her granddaughter to Wimbledon to celebrate the unveiling of a new £70m roof

Princess Alexandra and her granddaughter, Zenouska Mowatt, attended a special event at Wimbledon on Sunday to mark the unveiling of a new £70m roof.

Her Royal Highness and Miss Mowatt were seated in the Royal Box alongside other dignitaries to watch the star-studded unveiling ceremony.

The four-hour event was held to mark The All England Lawn Tennis Club unveiling the fully retractable roof on top of its second biggest court.

Guests who took part in the celebrations were tennis stars of the past including Martina Navratilova & John McEnroe, and players of the present Jamie Murray & Venus Williams.

There were also performances by stars such as Paloma Faith and the BBC Symphony Orchestra.

The roof cost £70m and took three years to complete. It will enable more matches to be played for longer in bad weather conditions when the Wimbledon Championships get underway in July.

It has been a busy weekend for Princess Alexandra and Zenouska Mowatt. On Saturday, they both attended the wedding of Lady Gabriella Windsor & Thomas Kingston at Windsor Castle.

Other members of The Royal Family to attend included The Queen & the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duke of Sussex, the Earl of Wessex, the Duke & Duchess of York and Princess Anne & Sir Tim Laurence.
