Range Rover once used by Prince and Princess of Wales fetches $130,000 at auction

Nowadays cars rarely come cheap.

And they certainly don’t if they have once been used by some of the most well-known British royals.

As reported in People, last Sunday saw a 1975 Range Rover being sold for around $133,000 which is the equivalent to about £101,150!

This may seem like a lot of money, but it has also been reported that the vehicle has in its time seated many a famous royal including the Prince of Wales and the late Diana, Princess of Wales.

In 1982, Diana, while pregnant with Prince William, was photographed sitting on the hood at the Grand National Racecourse.

The vehicle was sold at Silverstone Auctions who are reported in People to have said:

“Whether driven by Prince Charles during his courtship with the late Princess Diana, Prince Philip nonchalantly standing on the rear tailgate, or picking Their Royal Highnesses Prince and Princess Michael of Kent up from Heathrow, period photographs abound in online archives.”

But despite selling for such a lot of money, it wasn’t an easy task to get the car to auction or making it look in tip-top condition to be sold.

As explained on Silverstone Auction’s listing of the vehicle, the car was initially found on a farm in Worcester in 2013 in a ‘sorry state’.

It then had to have its royal connection confirmed by the British Heritage Museum before it faced two more years and more than 1000 hours of restoration to reform it to all its royal glory.

But all the hard work was worth it for the vendor’s drive around Italy’s Prosecco Region.

And it would seem that Range Rover’s must be a highly thought of car amongst the Royal Family with Silverstone Auction’s listing revealing all:

“The Royal Family were first in the queue and have owned every model (of Range Rover) since launch to the current, either in standard production form or with bespoke features.

“Archival photographs through to the present day show The Queen and her family at the wheel or alighting from a Range Rover more so than any other model of car.”

So there you have it, if you want to ride around like a royal, you know which model of car to invest in!
