You know when your family decides to throw a really important celebration and you’re working? That didn’t stop the Princess Royal this week. She was on hand at Buckingham Palace to support her older brother as he marked fifty years since his Investiture as Prince of Wales despite having another four engagements on the same day. But then this is Princess Anne we’re talking about – who’s surprised? Take a seat, you’ll need it, here’s the Princess Royal’s week.
Anne’s first engagements took place on Tuesday, the day of that special reception for Charles, where the princess joined the Queen, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the Earl and Countess of Snowdon and Lady Sarah Chatto in celebrating the prince’s half century of service.
Her other engagements that day included a trip to Leighton Buzzard where Anne, who is patron of the National Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux, visited the local CAB to see its work in action and speak to some of those providing support across the community in the area.
Back in London, the princess met representatives of the National Equine Forum at a private audience before heading off to a graduation ceremony. Anne is Chancellor of the University of London and she attended its Worldwide Graduation Ceremony at the Barbican. The evening saw the Princess Royal head to another reception in London, this time for the Scots in Great War London Group, of which she is patron.
The following day, the princess was in Lanarkshire where she visited Coatbridge to officially open a new set of apartments created in the former Carnegie Library in the town. The derelict building has been transformed into accommodation by the Clyde Valley Housing Association.
Also on Wednesday, the Princess Royal attended the Citizens Advice Scotland conference and AGM which was held this year in Cumbernauld in Dunbartonshire. The focus was on the importance of the organisation, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary, in local communities.
Thursday saw the Princess Royal attending the National Equine Forum in London. The conference, running for the 27th time, aims to shine a spotlight on the most relevant and pressing issues in the equine world and bring together experts from across the horse industry to discuss them. Princess Anne gave the closing address at the conference, speaking of the importance of fitness and technology across the industry.
Anne’s other engagement on Thursday took her to Lancaster House in London where she attended the FIRST Magazine Responsible Capitalism Awards.
The Princess Royal has carried out 78 engagements so far this year according to the Court Circular. She was the busiest member of the House of Windsor in 2018, undertaking 518 royal duties across the year.
